BEHIND THE LENS: SHANINA SHAIK
Australian supermodel, business owner, mother of Zai, Save The Children ambassador, and all round ever-inspiring woman (we could keep going, but we have a character limit).
We had the absolute pleasure of shooting our latest campaign with Shanina and you bet, we asked her all of our burning questions.
Get to know Shanina and explore behind the scenes of our DISSH x Shanina campaign shoot below.
You've just returned to Australia. What are your 3 travelling essentials?
My 3 travelling essentials would be my Sala mascara and moisturiser from Liberty Bell and a good face mask and I'm currently using one from APS.
Since starting Sala by Shanina, what's the biggest lesson you've learnt about being a woman in business?
It's really important to have a supportive community throughout your journey of building a business, especially while you're busy and trying to balance a personal life.
Since having your son Zai, what would you say the best thing about motherhood is?
Motherhood has been the most amazing journey for me, and it's the most ultimate, purest love that I'll ever know. I love seeing my little boy grow and become his own little person, and it's really just a fun journey to witness, yeah.
What's your favourite thing about your job?
The best thing about my job would be travel. I love getting on a plane and travelling to amazing places and seeing the world and creating experiences with just the crew. It's really great. It's kind of like a holiday and vacation.
What's the biggest challenge within your career?
The hardest part of my job is being away from my family. It gets really hard.. and
long, and sad.
What advice do you have for young women wanting a career in fashion?
To never give up. Believe in your style and aesthetic and build a community around you that will make your dreams come true.
Do you feel empowered in your career?
I do find modelling empowering. I've used my job and my career to move towards outlets that I enjoy. What I love doing, creating a business for myself and it's moved towards me becoming ambassador for Save the Children, working on a podcast for Wellness and it's extremely empowering to do those things, but also to help others and that's what's important to me as I do my career of modelling.
What's the best thing about being back in Australia?
Apart from eating the foods that I love the most, like Vegemite on toast and Tim Tams and Potato wedges with sour cream and chilli sauce. I'm just happy to be home and to see my family and it's really just a special time for me to relax and have quality time with them, yeah.
What's your best style tip?
My best style tip would be to own a good blazer. Funny enough, I'm wearing one. It's a great staple piece to have in your closet because you can dress it up from day to night.
What perfume are you wearing right now?
I'm wearing Yves Saint Laurent. Black opium. That's right. It's so good.
I saw Shanina Shaik wearing an oversized blazer and kitten heels, So I bought an oversized blazer and kitten heels.
